Unauthorized Areas Tour of USS Iowa

I thought this was pretty cool.  The blogger didn't know a lot about naval vessels, but who cares - his guide sure did. H/T Every Blade of Grass via Lagniappes Lair.

Thanks for the link-back!

The Tour Guide in the video is actually the "Lead Tour Guide" on the ship, and is a Naval propulsion expert. He's quite a character, and a really good guy!

If you ever get to the Los Angeles area, drop me a line, and I'll give you a personal tour of the ship.

You're very welcome! I have visited the North Carolina and I would love to visit the Iowa as well. What struck me was as big as these ship are, the compartments are really small. I'm 6'3" and wouldn't fit in most of the beds I saw, and I would be constantly braining myself on the overheads.

I'm 5'10" and I constantly bump my head on low hanging things.

The original WWII bunks were more like pipe-frame hammocks, so your feet could have hung over the edge. Not as comfortable as a king-sized bed, but better than turning yourself into 'human origami', I guess...
